Vervolgens beschrijft de ondergrondse man zijn avonturen en perikelen in het dagelijks leven in Petersburg, gebeurtenissen die de man vervullen met triomf of hem in een diep dal storten.

Dostojevski’s tragikomische novelle kan gezien worden als het begin van de moderne roman. In deze nieuwe vertaling van Gerard Cruys komt het waanzinnige en filosofische pleidooi van de ondergrondse verteller naar voren als nooit tevoren.

Startling, heartbreaking, and funny all at the same time
